Another year, another U.S. Triple Crown race clouded by a rainy forecast.

Like the Longines Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve earlier this month, the Preakness Stakes has racing fans and bettors checking their weather app(s) regularly the week of the classic race in hopes of a promising update.

The second leg of the Triple Crown, the $2 million, Grade 1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, is coming up this Saturday. The 149th renewal of the 1 3/16-mile race is expected to draw a strong field, and identifying the most likely winner won’t be easy.

The 2024 Preakness Stakes will be run Saturday, May 18, at Pimlico in its usual spot on the calendar two weeks after the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.

The Grade 2, $400,000 Man o’ War Stakes drew a field of nine this year, with five of the group having won or finished within inches of winning a similar graded stakes on grass in their most recent effort in North America.
